The Assistant Winemaker will assist with the quality, organization, and execution of winemaking activities for Biltmore Estate's 150,000 case production winery. The Assistant Winemaker is responsible for assisting the Head Winemaker in all aspects of the wine production process, including: analysis, quality control, wine processing, grapes and wine purchasing, and compliance with Federal and State regulations.  The incumbent will also help with the day-to-day operations of the bottling line, sanitation & safety, and maintenance of winery equipment. The Assistant Winemaker will also provide general support and assistance to the department, leadership, and company. 


1. Four-year degree in a related field required. Ideal candidate will have a degree in Oenology or Fermentation Sciences. Additional education, training, and/or certification (s) preferred.
2. At least three (3) years of related Winemaking experience required. Equivalent combination of education/experience may be considered. 
3. Demonstrated commitment to delivery of world class internal/external guest service.
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; should be able to convey information, clearly, concisely, and effectively to a variety of audiences.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook; ability to quickly learn Biltmore systems/protocols.
6. Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills; must be able to prioritize work under deadline and adjust accordingly as situations change.
7. Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and troubleshoot as needed is a must; should be able to exercise good judgment while anticipating and addressing issues.
8. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision in a fast paced production environment.

Physical requirements: 

1. Valid driver's license, and must be at least 21 years of age.
3. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds frequently.
3. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders to access tanks, machinery, and equipment.
4. Full range of motion and manual dexterity to access and operate equipment; should be able to bend, squat, crouch, kneel, reach overhead/below.
