Executive Senior Director

The Executive Senior Director leads all major activities associated with government relations and public affairs activities for selected states. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Public Affairs, this high visibility role effectively represents K12’s interests through developing and maintaining key relationships with contract lobbyists, state legislators and staff, executive and regulatory leaders and staff, other policy makers and administrators, business leaders and education interest groups.

AS Executive Senior Director, YOU WILL..

  • Studies proposed legislation to determine possible effects on the business in selected states;
  • Confers with legislators and officials to emphasize supposed weaknesses or merits of specific bills to influence passage, defeat, or amendment of measure, or introduction of legislation more favorable to the company’s interests;
  • Contacts individuals and groups having similar interests in order to encourage them also to contact legislators and present views;
  • Prepares news releases and informational pamphlets and conducts news conferences in order to state the company’s views and to inform public of features of proposed legislation considered desirable or undesirable;
  • Plans and coordinates meetings between members and elected officials to discuss legislative issues and proposals and allow officials to respond to membership concerns;
  • Contacts regulatory agencies and testifies at public hearings to enlist support;
  • Attends and represents local organizations at state and national association meetings

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Business Administration, Management or related discipline AND
  • Twelve (12) years of successful leadership experience in planning, development, legislative affairs, and regulatory policy at the state level including extensive experience identifying and building relationships/working with key government leaders and committees affecting education legislation OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

  • This is an office-based position. The noise level in the office is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic). In select situations, remote office environment will be considered.
