The Head of School is the academic leader of a school within the Private Schools Business Unit and is responsible for the delivery of educational services and student academic outcomes within the designated school model. Accountable directly to the Senior Director for Academic Operations, the Head of School is also a member of the Private Schools academic leadership team. An innovative and effective instructional leader, the Head of School is also accountable to the School’s teachers and students, ensuring exceptional and consistent administrative support for the delivery of services to students. The Head of School must effectively coordinate with the K12 Private School operations, marketing, admissions, product management, and enrollment teams to ensure the School has the support and products needed to facilitate excellent academic outcomes and student retention. The Head of School ensures compliance with all licensing and accrediting bodies, and selects, develops and retains highly qualified and effective staff, evaluating them objectively based on performance rubrics and achievement of individual and school goals At all times, the Head of School exemplifies the qualities associated with academic leadership and professionalism, uses data to recommend program changes, collaborates effectively as an academic leader within the business unit, and ensures instruction and intervention is targeted to meet students’ individual needs. As an academic leader within the business unit, the Head of School is also called upon from time to time to lead initiatives that may impact overall growth and development of the business unit beyond just their own school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. • While serving as the chief administrator of a K12 school, provides leadership exhibiting professionalism and high academic standards that celebrate student and staff achievements; implements the school’s mission and vision, as well as strategic planning initiatives driven by K12;

• Develops plans and policies for the educational program and submits them to the Senior Director of Academic Operations for approval; ensures policies and programs are carried out appropriately by all students, parents, and staff;

• Consults with K12’s legal team and Human Resources as needed to appropriately handle any legal issues; ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws;

• Communicates school budget needs to the Senior Director of Academic Operations and oversees the local implementation of the budget in accordance with approved plans;

• Supports the implementation of the school marketing and enrollment plans directed by K12 to achieve and maintain enrollment capacity;

• Serves as public relations liaison between K12 and the school community; engages community and civic groups to support school programs and the school community;

• Ensures school programs are in alignment with authorizing agency requirements, including NCAA, accreditation, and any licensing bodies;

• Effectively recruits, hires, and retains highly qualified staff; develops effective staff members through ongoing evaluation and professional development, and employs staff members effectively and efficiently to drive student outcomes within the instructional and capacity planning models;

• Creates and fosters a positive school culture by involving school staff, students, and parents;

• Serves as the school’s instructional leader and ensures data is being used to drive all academic decisions;

• Ensures teaching staff utilizes the K12 curriculum, effective assessments, and targeted instruction to meet the individual needs of each student;

• Implements Strong Start effectively, and recommends appropriate intervention and targeting of support services for student engagement and retention;

• Drives the strategies, and their implementation, to support achievement of annual targets in the academic scorecard initiative;

• Responsible for driving excellent customer satisfaction through the provision of services, the perceived value for the cost of tuition, and other key customer service targets as measured in the annual Customer Satisfaction Survey and other surveys;

• Innovate programs and strategies to achieve business unit goals, and oversee efficient implementation of approved programs that maximizes program impact while positively impacting the student experience. Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 6-10 employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems



• Master’s degree AND

• Eight (8) years of experience in an academic environment OR

• Equivalent combination of education and experience in school or instructional leadership.

• Ability to travel up to 15% of the time. Certificates and Licenses: None required OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Ability to pass required background check.


• Three (3) years of school administration experience

• Experience in non-traditional educational setting or online/charter school experience.

• Entrepreneurial orientation with proven experience developing and implementing new programs and initiatives.
