Summer Academies Program Assistant 

POSITION LOCATION:  Vermont

Located on two campuses in Vermont, Middlebury Interactive Languages Summer Academy offers middle and high school students the opportunity to study Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, or Spanish with skilled language educators in an intensive four week immersion environment.

Program Assistants (PA) work closely with administrators to provide logistical support to the daily operations of the Academy and assist with the coordination and execution of academy programming.

This is a residential position. All employees will be provided room and board. They will have two full days off during the 4-week session. All employees pay for their travel to and from program locations. Transportation from local airport and train station is provided at both the beginning and the end of the program by MIL. Housing is not provided for family members.

As the Summer Academies Program Assistant, YOU WILL . . .

  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge and utilization of the Academy policies and procedures to create a safe, supportive, rewarding environment for students and staff
  • Provide administrative and operational support with efficiency, organization and positive spirit

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

  • Respond quickly and positively to a variety of requests which may include sorting the mail, running errands, copying and collating, filing, database entry, working the front desk, answering phones, setting up spaces, helping with academy events and assisting the Office Manager as needed
  • Flexibility to adjust to varying workloads while maintaining a positive countenance regardless of the tasks of the day and seek out additional areas to assist with during slower times
  • Support the Language Pledge
  • Communicate professionally and effectively to parents, students and other staff

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • AV/Technology support
    • Office administration
    • Customer service

Certificates and Licenses: none required

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization and operations skills
  • Excellent problem solving ability
  • Highly refined communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency
  • Ability to pass required background check

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Fluency in a foreign language is a plus
