Summer Academies Head Nurse 

POSITION LOCATION:  Vermont

Located at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, Middlebury Interactive Languages Summer Academy offers middle and high school students the opportunity to study Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, or Spanish with skilled language educators in an intensive four week immersion environment.

The Head Nurse is part of a community that creates an intensive four-week language immersion program for middle and high school students each summer. The Head Nurse has both administrative and clinical duties, and is ultimately responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of all students and staff. During the Academy, the Head Nurse will be on call 24 hours a day, including weekends.

This is a residential position. All employees will be provided room and board. They will have two full days off during the 4-week session. All employees pay for their travel to and from program locations. Transportation from local airport and train station is provided at both the beginning and the end of the program by MIL. Housing is not provided for family members.

As the Summer Academy Head Nurse, YOU WILL . . .

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge and utilization of the Academy policies and procedures to create a safe, supportive, rewarding environment for students and staff
  • Demonstrate confidence and expertise in laws and regulations governing these documents and procedures
  • Maintain strong community relationships with local hospitals, clinics, health offices, and physicians
  • Accurately and confidentially maintain all student and staff medical records and documentation
  • Address student and staff health issues and concerns utilizing appropriate interventions and treatments in a timely, safe, and effective manner in compliance with state and federal healthcare standards, including Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Communicate professionally and effectively to parents, students and other staff

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 2 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) regular employees and/or contractors.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Demonstrate ability to oversee and delegate various logistical and operational aspects of running a health office, including supervision of the Assistant Nurse and Health Assistant, ensuring appropriate treatment and information is received to address health concerns and needs
  • Utilize electronic clinic management system to document and manage student information
  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Nurse and Health Assistant on-site
  • Complete evaluations, reports and other documentation in a timely manner
  • Work to continually maintain a high-quality summer Academy through interaction, participation and visibility throughout the program

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) unencumbered license in Vermont
  • Experience working in a school or summer program setting is strongly preferred
  • Current CPR certification

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Current RN unencumbered license in Vermont
  • Current CPR certification

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Highly refined communication skills- both verbal and written
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency
  • Ability to pass required background check

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Fluency in a foreign language is a plus
