Summer Academies Teacher - Spanish

POSITION LOCATION:  Vermont

Located on two campuses in Vermont, Middlebury Interactive Languages Summer Academy offers middle and high school students the opportunity to study Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, or Spanish with skilled language educators in an intensive four week immersion environment.

Academy teachers teach the target language, cultures, and literature via the Middlebury Immersion Methodology. Classes at the Academy are designed to be task-based, interactive, learner-centered, and experiential for students. All courses and daily events are conducted in the target language. Teachers are also responsible for significant co-curricular programming leadership as well as teaching project-based Cultural Exploration classes.

This is a residential position. All employees will be provided room and board. They will have two full days off during the 4-week session. All employees pay for their travel to and from program locations. Transportation from local airport and train station is provided at both the beginning and the end of the program by MIL. Housing is not provided for family members.

As the Summer Academy Teacher, YOU WILL . . .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accomodations may be made to enable individualswith disabilities to perform the essential duties.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge and utilization of the Academy policies and procedures to create a safe, supportive, rewarding environment for students and staff
  • Implement the Immersion Curriculum in daily language classes
  • Teach effective and engaging Cultural Exploration classes
  • Lead co-curricular programming and activities
  • Complete evaluations, reports and other documentation in a timely manner
  • Participate in pre-season curriculum training led by the Language Director

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education AND
  • A minimum of three years World Language teaching experience at the secondary level
  • Native or near native mastery of the target language and culture

Certificates and Licenses: Current World Language Certification

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization and operations skills
  • Excellent problem solving ability
  • Highly refined communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.
  • Ability to pass required background check
