Director, Product Development / Location: Quincy, MA

We are the world's leading advocate of fire prevention and an authoritative source on public safety, NFPA develops, publishes, and disseminates more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and effects of fire and other risks.

Do you want to make a difference? We have an ideal opportunity for the Director, Product Development to manage a team of project managers to drive product strategy, product development and product standardization to support business initiatives and increase the profitability of the NFPA.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Sets strategic direction and business objectives for the product lines by formulating, executing and managing business plans to achieve such objectives.
  2. Develops a high performing team to accomplish product and profitability targets. Responsible for providing focused and responsive leadership to the team.
  3. Acts as a focal point for market knowledge, profitability, forecasts, and planning of a broad range of product lines.
  4. Establishes, prioritizes and manages key supplier relationships.
  5. Identifies core growth metrics for the business, measure and test to improve and drive core business outcomes (e.g. revenue, sales and active user engagement)
  6. Ability to assess and analyze data and other information in order to leverage market segments and customer needs.
  7. Responsible for the overall and day-to-day leadership and management of a large product development group.


  1. Must have a bachelor’s degree, an MBA or other advanced degree highly preferred.
  2. At least 10 years of hands on experience in product development with management experience.
  3. Proven leadership and business acumen and good decision making skills required.
  4. Resourceful and driven, proven ability to promote and execute ideas and strategies.
  5. Business to Business experience is required.
  6. Demonstrated project management experience.
  7. Ability to effectively execute in a team environment is critical. Build features and platform enhancements from existing ideas, and help innovate new ideas to support business growth.

  9. Knowledge in technology development best practices and product management methodology.
  10. Strong quantitative data analysis and critical thinking skills.
