Requirements Macmillan Learning is seeking a Program Manager for our Economics list. The Program Manager is responsible for the overall health and performance of the list including strategic, long-term planning; author and list management; market analysis; financial management and budgeting; publication goals; and a focus on solving customer pain points. The successful candidate will implement strategies to continue the transition of the list from print textbooks to digital learning platforms with an emphasis on enhancing learning and deepening digital pedagogy. This opportunity puts the right candidate at the forefront of working with a prestigious group of economics authors including award winning economists, a Nobel Laureate, former members of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors and several writers in the popular press. The Program Manager will report to the Social Sciences Program Director and work closely and collaboratively with teams across Macmillan Learning’s editorial, product development, marketing, and sales divisions.

Major Responsibilities:

List Management
• Ensure that publication of all Economics products are timely to market, competitive, and meet their financial and sales goals.
• Serve as the primary contact for our authors.
• Plan revisions in a timely manner. Develop and drive creative and competitive publication strategies for revisions while directing investment.
• Acquire new authors and products and prune existing products when necessary. Develop business plans around titles to ultimately determine what programs are published.
• Collaborate with economics editors (development, assessment, and media editorial) and members of the digital product group to identify and articulate functional requirements that support digital pedagogy in economics and execute on a market-informed and competitive digital strategy.
• Develop a keen sense of the Economics marketplace, and use that market knowledge to inform plans for the list.
• Develop relationships with potential authors, reviewers, and members of the teaching and research community to help sign and generate new projects or partnerships that meet list and market needs.
Overall Sales and List Performance
• Travel and collaborate with marketing, sales, learning solutions specialists, and market development, as appropriate, to ensure successful sales of all Economics products and titles.
• Through campus work, attendance at national conferences, and monitoring industry trends, identify and understand customer challenges to inform product development.
• Seed new adoptions through events and outreach, work with reps and marketing managers to sell products and refine marketing messages. Travel to support sales efforts, as needed.
Budgets and Profitability
• Ensure timely, accurate evaluation and maintenance of budgetary information.
• Manage and serve as the key decision-maker for the title budgets and investment forecast for franchises and titles and new product models.

Required Skills / Knowledge:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent editorial judgment and problem-solving skills

• Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to form productive working relationships with authors, author teams, and in house teams including marketing, content and assessment development, media editorial and production

• Strong project management skills, with ability to juggle multiple ongoing projects, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

• Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, make decisions, and work independently

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps

Experience Needed:

• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in sales, marketing, or editorial with a higher education learning company or related industry

Educational Background Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Economics degree or a related field is an advantage
