Macmillan Learning has a unique opportunity for a Director of Finance in our New York location that will partner with a broad range of stakeholders across the organization. The Director of Finance will do the central finance coordination across Macmillan Learning; overseeing the budgeting / forecasting process and providing monthly actuals/KPI reporting to key stakeholders in the organization. In this capacity the candidate will work closely with the functional finance leads of the organization. The preparation of board materials and work on ad-hoc requests and projects is also an important part of the role. The Director of Finance will also manage a team and be the key liaison to the shared services organization (accounting, accounts payable, tax) of Macmillan.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Budget / Forecasting Process
    • Manage the overall budgeting / forecasting process
    • Create central templates for functional finance partners
    • Balance Sheet and Cash-Flow planning for Business Units
    • Analysis of major variances
    • Manage business unit level allocations
  • Actuals/KPI Reporting
    • Ownership of monthly actual reporting
    • Perform variance analysis and facilitation of internal review meeting with functional finance partners
    • Facilitate review meetings with senior leadership
    • Manage KPI reporting
  • C-suite Advisor
    • Prepare ad-hoc analysis for senior management
    • Prepare board materials
  • Partner with finance related shared services teams across the organization (accounting, accounts payable, tax, treasury)
  • Projects
    • Participate in M&A projects
    • Process improvement projects across the finance organization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree / Master’s Degree in Business, Finance or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in a finance role, 8+ years preferred
  • Experience managing a team preferred
  • Working knowledge of financial tools (incl. financial modeling)
  • Working knowledge of SAP ERP products (S4/Hana, FI/CO, BPC)
  • Proficiency in accounting standards (especially IFRS)
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of BI tools desired (MS PowerBI)
  • Work experience in an accounting or consulting firm preferred.
  • Experience in publishing or education industry preferred.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure
  • Highly analytical and data-driven mindset
  • Excellent team management, communication, and presentation skills
