Requirements
Position Description:

We are seeking a knowledgeable, organized, meticulous individual to join our small, busy department. The Contracts Assistant will report to the Director and will assist with drafting and negotiating author contracts and subsidiary rights licenses.

Major Responsibilities:

• Assisting with drafting, reviewing and negotiating Author contracts. This involves extensive correspondence and negotiation with Authors and Agents, as well as communication with Editors, the Legal Department and other in-house staff.
• Assisting with drafting and reviewing subsidiary rights licenses including translation, audio and serial publication; extensive communication with Sub-Rights staff, sub-agents and foreign publishers.
• Research and analysis of author contracts and sub-rights licenses for various departments including Editorial, Sub-Rights and Permissions, Finance, and Publicity and Marketing.
• Database entry of contract terms and details.
• Process and track author contract reversions and sub-rights license reversions.
• Process and track author payment requests.
• Scanning contracts into archival system.
• Administrative support with filing and upkeep of office systems.
• Supervision of interns.

Required Skills / Knowledge:

• Excellent analytical skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Keen attention to detail
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Experience with Biblio preferred

Experience Preferred:

• Experience with author contracts, subsidiary rights licensing, permissions licensing, or related experience in book or magazine publishing preferred

Educational Background Required:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
