||Hayden-McNeil, an imprint of Macmillan Learning Curriculum Solutions, is a custom publisher of course specific educational materials, and is looking for seasonal assistance. Our seasonal staff will provide support to our Design team during the Fall and
Winter production seasons. This position supports our Design Associates in typesetting new material and incorporating proofreader and author revisions to textbooks/lab manuals/sales samples in various disciplines (Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology,
Communication and English).
For the period between approximately October through mid-December 2019, and mid-February through the first week of August 2020, we will need experienced typesetters to format text for new manuscripts using approved layout/styles, place illustrations and photos,
make revisions/corrections to existing typeset files, and perform any overflow of project-specific in-house technical duties (text clean-up, photo scanning/sizing, cropping/retouching/labeling). This person will take direction from the designer that they are
assisting in moving the project through the production process to press.
o Must possess strong attention to detail
o Good spelling and grammar skills
o Familiarity with scientific terms a plus
o Proficiency in graphic design applications on the Mac OSX platform (Adobe CC–including InDesign, PhotoShop, Acrobat Pro DC, and Microsoft Word; experience with equation editing software (MathMagic) is a plus
o Should have previous experience with text variables, style sheets, master page templates, book palette and creating tables
o Ability to work independently or in a team setting
o Flexible with ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
o Good organizational and communication skills
o Ability to follow directions, existing processes and procedures, and work in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a professional attitude
o Minimum 1–3 years working in the graphic design or publishing field, with an emphasis on multi-page textbook composition (long document production averaging 200–400 pages)
o Candidate should have current experience and samples that show production capability
o Available to work onsite in our Plymouth office during peak production season approximately October through mid-December 2019, and mid-February through the first week of August 2020, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Potential candidates for this position will be required to spend a half-day taking an on-site typesetting test to assess their skills. For the selected candidates, a two-day training session will be held prior to the start of the production season. Please note,
this is a production position and DOES NOT have creative/design responsibilities.
