Requirements Hayden-McNeil, an imprint of Macmillan Learning Curriculum Solutions, a custom publisher of course specific educational materials, is looking for a full-time typesetter available to work onsite with the Design team. This position supports our Design Associates in typesetting new author content and incorporating proofreader and author revisions to textbooks/lab manuals/sales samples in various disciplines (Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Communication and English).

Duties:

Beginning in October 2019, we will need an experienced typesetter to format text for new manuscripts using approved layout/styles, place illustrations and photos, and make revisions/corrections to existing typeset files for next editions. This person will take direction from the designer that they are assisting in moving the project through the production process to press. Requires design savvy to work with new author content and apply appropriate styles in established layout.

Requirements:

o Must possess strong attention to detail
o Good spelling and grammar skills
o Familiarity with scientific terms a plus
o Advanced proficiency in graphic design applications on the Mac OSX platform (Adobe CC–including InDesign, PhotoShop, Acrobat Pro DC, and Microsoft Word; experience with equation editing software (MathMagic) is a plus
o Should be familiar with text variables, style sheets, master page templates, book palette, creating tables, and mapping styles from Word to InDesign
o Ability to work independently or in a team setting
o Flexible with ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
o Good organizational and communication skills
o Ability to follow directions, existing processes and procedures, and work in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a professional attitude
o Degree in graphic design, advertising or publishing preferred
o Minimum 3–5 years in graphic design with an emphasis on multi-page textbook composition (long document production averaging 200–400 pages)
o Candidate should have current experience and samples that show production capability
o Available to work onsite in our Plymouth office

Potential candidates for this position will be required to spend a half-day taking an on-site typesetting test to assess their skills. Please note, this is a production position and DOES NOT have creative/design responsibilities. This is NOT an entry-level position.
