Requirements

Macmillan has a unique opportunity for an Impact Research Scientist who will support Macmillan Learning’s Impact Research team. We are looking for someone who will have an understanding of the best research practices associated with carrying out applied research in higher education institutions; database management and querying skills, qualitative and quantitative applied research methods; data analysis; literature reviews; technical report writing; and strong oral and written communication skills. In addition, the Impact Research Scientist will have the flexibility to work with diverse stakeholders to support research study goals and a strict attention to detail to ensure successful completion of research activities across multiple projects.

The responsibilities of an Impact Research Scientist will include but are not limited to:

  • Design, develop, and carry out impact research studies
  • Database development and management
  • Recruit instructors and institutions to participate in impact research studies
  • Complete IRB submissions to institutions
  • Communicate with research study participants and institutions on study protocols and data collection procedures
  • Identify and develop instruments for data collection
  • Collect and analyze that data from research participants and study sites
  • Develop reports for internal and external stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience supporting applied research projects as well as training in research methods and data analyses
  • Current enrollment in a Master’s Degree program in related field (Educational Research, Evaluation, Social Psychology, Education) OR Master’s Degree in related field (Educational Research, Evaluation, Social Psychology, Education)
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with customers or clients to recruit study participants
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, transferring, storing and managing data, both qualitative and quantitative, in compliance with IRB and/or FERPA regulations
  • Knowledge of data management and quantitative techniques using programs such as SAS, R, or SPSS
  • Knowledge of qualitative research techniques such as coding and identifying themes
  • Demonstrated experience communicating results to customers in a way that is easily understood and used
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in related field (Educational Research, Evaluation, Social Psychology, Education)
  • Demonstrated experiencing using SQL (or another querying software) to extract data from platforms and format it to specifications
  • Experience measuring the effectiveness and impact of educational technology tools
  • Demonstrated skills in sophisticated statistical techniques such as PSM, HLM, and RDD
