Macmillan is currently offering paid internship opportunities for summer 2019. Internships are available in following areas: Editorial, Marketing, Publicity, Art & Design, Production and Children’s Books. Please be sure to specify your areas of interest in your cover letter.

 

Interns will be provided with the opportunity to participate in work related assignments, gain practical work experience, and network with employees from various departments. Overall, the intern will become familiar with the basic structure of a publishing house and the role of each department within. The Macmillan summer internship program is available to candidates who have graduated high school, are over the age of 18, are eligible to work in the U.S. and aspire to pursue a career in the publishing industry. Internships are anticipated to start in late May or early June and will continue through August. If needed, there may be some flexibility in regards to the duration of the internship.

Macmillan Publishers partners with We Need Diverse Books (WNDB), a non-profit organization, which offers summer internship grants of $2,500 and a transit pass to 5 recipients. If you meet the criteria below, we encourage you to apply directly for this grant on the WNDB site, in addition to applying to Macmillan’s summer internship posting:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  1. Applicant must identify as coming from a diverse background as noted in the WNDB mission statement.
  2. Applicant must be a high school graduate/GED, or currently enrolled college/university student, or college graduate.
  3. Applicant must have received a paid internship offer from a participating publisher or from a qualifying literary agent. (However, we recommend that you submit your application for the WNDB Internship Grant while you’re applying for internships). The position must be at least part time and minimum wage.
  4. For publishers, the internship must be in the children’s division. For literary agencies, the internship must have a focus on children’s publishing (spending at least 50% of the time on children’s books).
