Requirements
Position Description:

We are looking for a full-time editorial assistant, working across four imprints (primarily SMP, with additional titles in the Minotaur, Griffin, and Essentials lines). The position will support two Senior Editors, and the ideal candidate will be able to efficiently manage a diverse set of responsibilities.

Major Responsibilities:

• Maintaining publication schedules and departmental databases, and otherwise tracking the publication process for anywhere between 15 and 30 titles per year
• Communicating with authors and agents throughout the publication process, as well as acting as an interdepartmental liaison
• Logging agented submissions, sending rejection letters, drafting contract and check requests, generating sales reports, and tracking payments and invoices.
• Writing flap copy, title information sheets, and catalog copy.
*Evaluating manuscripts and writing reader reports for submissions.
• Assistance with special projects, research, and compiling various reports and intradepartmental information as needed
• Basic administrative support, including schedule coordination, travel, and expense reports

Required Skills / Knowledge:

• Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and exceptional time management
• Genuine interest in book publishing. Most of what you work on will be varieties of nonfiction in the areas of history, pop science, pop culture, celebrity, fitness and lifestyle, and sports as well as fiction for the adult market: horror, thrillers, mystery, commercial women’s and literary fiction.
• Ability to think creatively and critically, particularly in collaborative environments
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
*Strong ability to prioritize, set and meet deadlines, and work independently
*Strong work-ethic and initiative


Experience Needed:

• 0-1 years
• Candidates with alternative (non-publishing industry-based) office experience are welcome

Educational Background Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred
