Requirements
We are seeking an Associate Publicist to join our dynamic Children's Publicity team and work on a wide variety of bestselling and award-winning titles, including picture books, young adult novels, and graphic novels across all imprints of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. The Associate Publicist will also play a key role in the planning and execution of consumer conventions (ie, New York Comic Con, C2E2). This position reports to a Publicity Manager.


Major Responsibilities:

• Handle all aspects of publicity campaigns for picture books, middle grade, young adult, and graphic novels.
• Pitching and securing top media, including print/broadcast/online outlets as well as blogs and other digital platforms.
• Planning and executing multi-city book tours and author appearances, including coordinating book signings, arranging travel and creating comprehensive tour schedules.
• Travel with authors on book tours, at festivals, and consumer conventions.
• Writing press materials, including compelling press releases and creative pitch letters.
• Researching new media outlets and creating targeted mailing lists.
• Working closely with publicity team as well as authors, publishers, editors, sales and marketing teams.


Required Skills / Knowledge:


• Demonstrated ability to plan and execute successful publicity campaigns.
• Ability to pitch authors and titles to media representatives and to establish and broaden relationships in the media.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to show good judgment and decision-making ability when working with authors and colleagues.
• Must be detailed-oriented, well-organized and able to manage multiple priorities and balance routine tasks along with long-term projects
• Must be comfortable in a collaborative environment and be capable of multi-tasking while interacting with authors, editors, marketing managers, and media contacts.


Experience Needed:


• At least 1 to 2 years of experience in book publicity (children’s publicity preferred)


Educational Background Required:


• Bachelor’s Degree
