Macmillan Learning has a unique opportunity for a Vice President of Analytics and Data that will lead a team that provides internal and customer facing data based insights, Research & Development for personalization, adaptivity and diagnostics, design and oversight of learner data standards, and thought leadership on learning analytics appropriate to the strategic priorities and budgetary constraints of the business.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Learner data design: Provide specification, implementation support, and oversight of critical learner data for content, product and engineering roadmaps.
  • Team: Recruit and retain leading analytics talent, grow existing analytics talent (whether directly managed or not)     
  • Evidence: Provide analytics for Efficacy Studies and UX testing.
  • Insights: Research empirical trends of institutions, instructors and learners to provide insights to Editorial, Product, Marketing, Sales and Support for improvements to current in­market priority products, and kernels for future product innovation.
  • Business Intelligence: Provide actionable reporting on digital product penetration, usage and performance for Sales, Marketing, Tech, and Strategy teams
  • Personalization/adaptive algorithms and learning diagnostics: Provide R&D for algorithms driving personalization and adaptivity capabilities and learning diagnostics
  • Communications: Internal communications, and external thought leadership (in partnership with Marketing and Learning Design)

Required Skills / Knowledge:

  • PhD in data science, education research, and learning analytics or equivalent work experience
  • At least 10 years of related work experience
  • Experience with the education industry
  • Proven ability to initiate, develop, and execute innovative data analytics and research solutions in complex learning and business environments that deliver business value.
  • Learning analytics and research leadership at the interface of educational data mining and learning science.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience in utilizing cutting-edge statistical methods, machine learning methods, and other relevant analytical and computational, and data processing methods (e.g., adaptive algorithms, SQL).
  • Effective problem-solving skills; strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Development of high performing data science teams highly preferred.
