Requirements

Macmillan Learning, a rapidly growing STEM and higher education-focused company based in the heart of Austin, is seeking a Director or Cloud Operations to build quality into its personalized learning technology infrastructure. We are looking for a quality-focused leader to complete this all-star team.

The Director of Cloud Operations reports to the VP of Infrastructure and is responsible for the overall day to day operations of organization’s cloud infrastructure. The Director will work alongside agile development and production support to coordinate, define and develop comprehensive solutions that satisfy BAU and BBU requirements. The Director will also take ownership of AWS infrastructure, architecture, cost control, operational processes, and infrastructure policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs cloud-engineering team and infrastructure managed services vendor to improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency of all cloud services.
  • Selection, hiring, motivation, and development of a high-performing staff
  • Management of AWS Virtual Infrastructure, Networking, Server, Storage, Database, Middleware, Backup, and Disaster Recovery components and projects for our internal stakeholder environments.
  • Management of daily infrastructure operations to ensure availability SLA is met for all Cloud Services customer environments.
  • Create and enhance administrative, operational and technical policies and procedures, adopting best practice guidelines, standards and procedures for employees, contractors and vendor engagements.
  • Development and evolution of IT infrastructure standards and procedures based on the ITIL framework
  • Deliver secure, highly available, mission-critical enterprise-class solutions using Windows/Linux
  • Management of relationships with Cloud Services infrastructure vendors.
  • Development of overall Infrastructure Vision to support Cloud Services Infrastructure needs for the future.
  • Interfacing with Stakeholders to establish requirements and negotiate priorities for all infrastructure projects and operations
  • Works in a concerted effort with application development to resolve complex issues and provides oversight and collaboration of technology products and service alternatives that improve the production services environment.
  • Provide and present status, analysis and reporting to internal stakeholders, executive management and Senior Leadership.
  • Interface with the Security and Compliance teams to ensure adherence to the compliance standards (e.g. ISO 27001:2013)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science
  • 10+ years of IT experience in large, enterprise, public clouds
  • 3+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services
  • Expertise with both Linux and Windows technologies and their use in delivering secure, highly available, mission-critical enterprise-class solutions
  • Strong ITIL process and process-improvement orientation
  • Exceptional project management skills and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex issues and provide recommendations
  • A passion for mentoring and coaching others so that they exceed their own expectations
  • Experience with trend analysis, tracking and reporting team goals and metrics
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to interface and influence all levels of management.
  • Available for occasional travel
  • A team player who is energized by helping everyone succeed

Preferred Qualifications

  • ITIL, PMP Certification strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated with Agile development methodologies preferred
  • A passion for mentoring and coaching others so that they exceed their own expectations
  • 5+ years experience with application development

Location: Our offices are currently located in Downtown Austin, but we will be moving to a North Austin location by January 2020.
